Did you know that natural sunlight has a powerful effect on your baby’s brain? When the clocks shift, our circadian rhythm—or the body’s internal clock—can get a little confused. But the sun is here to help! ☀️ Here’s how morning and evening light can keep your little one’s sleep on track:
🌞 Morning Light = Wake-Up Call for the Brain!
In the morning, exposing your baby to sunlight helps their brain recognize it’s time to start the day. When light enters through the eyes, it reaches a part of the brain called the suprachiasmatic nucleus—this is the “master clock” that syncs our sleep-wake cycle with the environment. This exposure suppresses melatonin, the sleep hormone, signaling their brain to boost alertness and start the day fresh!
Try this: my goal is to get at least 10 min of sunshine in my kids eyes, before 10am! Will you try this? It’s GOLD 💛🌞
🌅 Evening Light = Winding Down Naturally
As the day winds down, watching the sunset or just spending time in lower, softer light helps the brain recognize that it’s time to rest. With the fading light, melatonin production increases, naturally preparing your little one’s brain for sleep. This gentle rhythm is why sunset and bedtime routines go hand-in-hand!
Try this: Try orange or red tones in your lighting at night! Bluer lights and LEDs can stimulate your body to stay awake, while moon/fire tones will allow your child to continue to wind down! Comment LIGHTS for low light ideas!
🧠 Why It Matters for Their Growing Brain:
Keeping a consistent cycle of light exposure helps babies’ and kids’ developing brains strengthen their circadian rhythm. With a stable rhythm, they’re better able to learn, play, and grow!
Let the sun be your guide through this time change and keep those little brains thriving! ☀️💤 Share with a parent who needs sleep!
